This month at Dirt Bag Paddlers we've declared mARTch! We are hosting an art contest to celebrate our love of the paddling lifestyle, which of course requires clean free flowing rivers. Along those lines DBP has partnered with International Rivers to help highlight the Day of Action on Saturday March 14. Now through Tuesday March 10, we are asking artists to submit their pics of paintings, sculptures, woodwork, photography, poetry, music, and any other category conceivable by posting them to our page. We will then share them there and on Instagram, as well as interview and feature them in an article in DBP MAGAZINE ONLINE. It's a great way for artists to get their art and their stories out there. And the images and other artforms will be used by International Rivers to help highlight their celebration.
The top entries in each category will get stickers from DBP in thanks for their effort and participation. The overall winner of the Contest will be selected by International Rivers, and will receive a DBP winter hat, a magnet from WALLACE Brewing Co, and stickers from Cascade Outfitters, LiquidLogic, Hyside, LifeProof, NRS, Alpacka Rafts, Airborn Kayaking, and more.

for the top entries in all artist categories for the mARTch contest. The "Above Vail" limited edition poster by Greg McFadden was painted on the Middle Fork while his boat was anchored to a wall near Elk Bar.
Greg’s love of rivers has led him from his home in Fraser, Colorado to the rivers of Idaho and the Grand Canyon. He is a plein aire painter, meaning he paints from life on the river, absorbing all the sights, sounds, from temperature to atmosphere and channels those feelings from head to hand, re-creating the vision in paints on paper or canvas. And he adds a special element to each work, "My concept is to express these rare landscapes, seen only by a limited number of people, through integrating the colors we see with the purest natural element, water… I believe that by using the actual water from these sites, there is a somehow sacred aspect to each piece holding a glimpse of the beauty and inspiration so abundantly felt there." Each piece is painted in one session, on site, and with one vessel of water from that river. The result is a recreation of the light, reflections and time of day of that location.
